You can extend the functionality of Total Recorder considerably by installing Total Recorder's Video Add-on and using it to record and edit video files in AVI or WMV format, including AVI (Digital Video Type 1) and AVI (Digital Video Type 2) files obtained from a digital DV camera.

To record video with the Video Add-on version 7.0, you require the following:

Before you begin working with the Video Add-on, you should read the Primer on Digital Video Recording.

Using the Video Add-on version 7.0, or higher, you can do the following:

• Play video files. For information about playing video files with Total Recorder, see Total Recorder's online help for the Video Add-on.
• Record video directly from the screen (see How to Record Video from a Screen or Software Player Using Total Recorder's Video Add-on).
• Record video from an external device, such as a web camera, TV tuner, digital DV camera, VHS video recorder, and many others. For more details, see How to Record Video from Video Devices.
• Watch and record Internet video transmissions in WMV format, such as Internet television. For more information, refer to Background Recording (Capturing) of Video Using Total Recorder's Video Add-on.
• Use a scheduler to record video files. These recordings can be performed with or without an audio stream. Refer to Using the Scheduler for details.
• Edit video files without any loss in quality, save parts of video or audio separately, or replace the audio track in a video file. For details, refer to How to Edit Video Using Total Recorder's Video Add-On.
• Save a selected frame as a bitmap. For more information, see Total Recorder's online help for the Video Add-on.
